Thermister

HRV/ERV cabinets contain Thermistor sensors that protect the core and main components from freezing. There are two different defrost cycles depending on how cold it is outside. These defrost cycles control how long the damper is open that allows exterior air in. The first defrost cycle is shorter and allows more cold air in than the second one which is longer and allows less air in.

HRV/ERVs are ducted from the outside into the suite, so when the air is -30C in Toronto, we need to manage and control how much of that cold air gets into the core and cabinet. If either freeze, that is not good for the overall system and can result in damage.
